Isaac was a farmer and lived in the town of Gerar, the former home of his father, Abraham, a land of the Philistines under the kingship of King Abimelech. Isaac was a man of submissive-faith and peace; a man who was obedient to God and listened to the Lord by staying in a land of the ungodly Philistines.
We learned together at our tables today that we would all struggle to be that submissive with changes in our lives and give up control of our future goals and plans. Isaac was a wonderful example of a man “sold out to God” in all areas of his life, giving full control to God without holding on to our stuff.
King Abimelech was threatened by Isaac in his prosperity and great wealth and was told to “get out of town”. We all agreed that one of the most difficult things to give up is our PRIDE and allow God through ungodly people step on our future and hope. One question was, “If you are holding a grudge or hurt by someone; what action could/should you take that you have learned from this story of the Well Digger, Isaac?
These men were so amazed at by the power of God Isaac’s life, that they begged him not to harm them. They wanted a peace treaty with Isaac, even though Isaac had never shown any signs of being unpeaceful. Do you think it ever occurred to Isaac that an entire nation of non-believers was watching his relationship with the Living God?
Isaac trusted God in his every step that placed him from the land of “Plenty of Room” to ultimately Beer-sheba, which means, “Well of the Oath.” God continued to prosper him with more wealth because of his faithfulness and willingness to follow obediently God’s call on his life.
