We are saddened to share the news of the death of Ralph Voelkel, who had been an active member of St. Mark’s for over 50 years. Visitation with Ralph’s family will be at St. Mark’s this Friday, January 9, from 5:00PM-7:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 10:30AM at St. Mark’s, followed by a reception in Garton Hall. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ralph’s family and loved ones.
Obituary
Ralph Voelkel, 87, of Bloomington, Indiana passed away on January 6, 2015. Ralph was born April 6, 1927 in Duff, Indiana. Ralph started as a farm hand working on his parents’ farm in Huntingburg, Indiana. He graduated from Indiana University-Bloomington with a Business Marketing degree. Ralph proudly served two years in the Army stationed in Stuttgart, Germany. When returning home from military service, Ralph became a CPA and started his successful accounting career with the Indiana State Board of Accounts. Later, Ralph became Director of Internal Auditing for Indiana University statewide, where he worked for over 30 years.
Ralph had many passions and interests. He was a devoted family man, an active member of St. Marks United Methodist Church (UMC) for over 50 years, a passionate outdoorsman and he loved farming. Ralph was concerned for others and gave generously to local organizations and institutions such as St. Mark’s UMC, Monroe County United Ministries, the Shalom Center, and Ivy Tech.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Susan Voelkel of Bloomington; a sister, Selma Wellmeyer of Huntingburg, IN; children, David (Carroll) Voelkel of Albuquerque, NM, Jane Voelkel of Halstead, KS and Mark (Raymund Amante) Voelkel of San Antonio, TX; step-children, Martha (David) Moore of Bloomington and Wally (Maria) Hays of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Christopher and Matthew Voelkel of Albuquerque, NM; step-grandchildren, Andrew, Emily and Clara Moore of Denver, CO, Robyn Gunn of Albuquerque, NM, Sophia and Martha Hays of Arlington, VA; step-great grandchildren, Maxwell and William Gunn-Fischer of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Drusilla Voelkel; his son, Paul Voelkel; his brothers Roy and Raymond Voelkel; and his parents Emil and Emma Voelkel.
Visitation services for Ralph Voelkel will be held at St. Marks UMC, 100 N St Rd 46 bypass, on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The funeral will be at St. Mark’s on Saturday, January 10 at 10:30 am with Pastors Ned Steele and Mary Beth Morgan officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Fairmont Cemetery, Huntingburg, IN.
