In recapping our story of \u201cLeaving Laban\u201d, I want to review two thoughts and introduce a third.<\/p>\n
First, let\u2019s recall God\u2019s promise to Jacob in Genesis 31:3. God told Jacob he would be with him. Jacob tells Laban he rushed away because he was \u201cafraid.\u201d Doesn’t that remind us of ourselves? We know God is with us too, yet we also do things because we too are afraid. Let\u2019s pray this week we will be bold. Let\u2019s squash the influence of fear or timidity in our lives (2 Timothy 1:7).<\/p>\n
Second, let us not be quick to want out of tough situations. Jacob worked 20 years for Laban. He persevered. He was patient. He endured. Sometimes, God wants to work in our lives and mold us through our adversities. Let\u2019s remember He is with us and He will see us through!!!! He wants us to come out on the other side strong in character (James 1:4).<\/p>\n
And finally, I have struggled with God\u2019s appearance to Laban and the fact that it seems to have no effect on him. Laban, did nothing good or bad, as God instructed, yet it amazes me that the next day, after this encounter with the God of the universe, he went looking for his stolen household gods!!!! Wow!!<\/p>\n
Is there a lesson here for us? Can we have great encounters with our God and Savior and then return to some of our own \u201chousehold gods?\u201d We should be mindful of this and see the stupidity of this in Laban\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
